1. Definition of “One Black”

 
Currently, the ink area and window area of ​​most display screens are usually different colors. When the display screen is in the off state, there is an obvious color difference boundary between the display area and the edge ink area, and the visual effect is poor.

As consumers' aesthetic taste improves, people's pursuit of beauty is getting higher and higher. Therefore, there is a technology that can make the color difference between the display area and the edge ink area of ​​the central control screen difficult to distinguish with the naked eye when the screen is off, so that the on-board display looks integrated with the environment and enhances the sense of luxury of the cockpit. To determine the integrity of the product, the color difference △E can be used to assist in measurement. As shown in the figure below, the L value represents lightness and darkness (black and white), the a value represents red and green, and the b value represents yellow and blue. △E=√((L1-L2)²+(a1-a2)²+(b1-b2)²). When △E<2, and the L value of the viewing area is less than 28, the integrated black effect is good; when △E≤1, a very good integrated black effect can be obtained.

2. How to achieve the "one black" effect

 
"One-piece black" can create a seamless visual experience, making the product appearance more upscale, elegant, beautiful and technological, while creating product differentiation, thereby increasing consumer purchasing desire. In addition to in-vehicle displays, it is also widely used in smart phones, smart wearables, mid-to-high-end touch-screen laptops and other smart terminals. So how to achieve the "one-piece black" effect?

The realization of integrated black has a lot to do with the components and process of the display screen, such as TFT display screen, polarizer, bonding method, bonding glue, frame ink, coating, etc. It requires a perfect match of various factors. Full screen bonding is conducive to the integrated black effect.

Since the TFT glass screen cannot be changed, there are three ways to implement the "integrated black" panel.

(1) Silk screen printing

 
After the cover is CNC-ed, reinforced, and silk-screened/evaporated with a black frame, a layer of IR ink semi-transparent printing is done on the window area or button part of the glass cover. The integrated black effect is achieved by adjusting the ink color and transmittance.
When using semi-transparent printing, please note:
  1. The semi-transparent black ink should be in the same color family as the frame color, and the color should be close. Too dark or too light will cause color difference.
  2. Transmittance control: Depending on the brightness of the LED light and the use environment, the transmittance ranges from 1% to 50%. Currently, the most commonly used are 15±5% and 20±5%.

(2) Coating

 
Different from the silk-screen printing method, the technology independently developed by Voge Optoelectronics to achieve "integrated black" is to directly coat a layer of inorganic film on the glass cover through magnetron sputtering and optical principles, and adjust the reflection, transmission and color difference of the film window area, so that the touch screen window and the silk-screen border color are consistent. The transmittance can reach 80% and the reflectivity is less than 2%.

(3) The cover is made of semi-transparent material

 
In addition to the two post-processing techniques of silk-screen printing and coating, you can also directly use semi-transparent materials to achieve the "one-piece black" effect. The material can be plastic or glass.
The one-piece black processing of plastic materials usually involves adding color powder to the resin material, and then adjusting the amount of color powder added to the material to achieve the "one-piece black" effect; glass can be added with color during production, or it can be dyed.
The glass material needs to be prepared by the glass manufacturer or a semi-transparent film needs to be used.
Directly using the processing method of semi-transparent materials can achieve an excellent "one-piece black" visual effect, and the cover surface has consistent transparency.

(4) Using smoky color OCA/OCR

 
From the structure of the display screen, the effect of integrated black is the color consistency displayed by the light after passing through the cover plate, TP layer, LCM layer, and fully bonded optical glue. Therefore, in addition to the cover plate, TP, and LCM liquid crystal layer, the color of the optical glue part can also be adjusted to reduce the color difference between the display part and the edge part.
