{"id":51526,"date":"2025-12-05T17:59:44","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T09:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abesmoke.com\/?p=51526"},"modified":"2025-12-05T17:59:44","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T09:59:44","slug":"bat-lrish-subsidiary-velo-saw-itsnicotine-pouch-sales-surge-fivefold-to-29-million-pouches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abesmoke.com\/en\/a\/51526","title":{"rendered":"BAT lrish subsidiary, Velo, saw itsnicotine pouch sales surge fivefold to 29 million pouches."},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\"><span dir=\"auto\"><span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\">Recently, PJ Carroll &amp; Co Ltd,<\/span> the Irish subsidiary of global tobacco giant BAT , stated that its nicotine pouch sales in Ireland surged nearly fivefold last year, reaching 29 million pouches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"auto\">Sales of its Velo nicotine pouches increased from 6 million pouches in 2023 to 29 million pouches last year, while Velo's revenue grew by 442% compared to 2023.\u00a0\u00a0The company launched the Velo brand only in June 2023,\u00a0which contributed 3% of total revenue that year and achieved a 45.9% market share in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<section><span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\"><span dir=\"auto\">PJ Carroll &amp; Co Ltd's net revenue increased by approximately 11% in 2024 to \u20ac33.75 million from \u20ac30.53 million in 2023.<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">\u00a0The board stated that\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">the revenue growth was \"primarily driven by strong growth in Velo and the continued growth momentum in e-cigarettes, offsetting the decline in combustible cigarette sales.\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">\"<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/section>\n<section><span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\"><span dir=\"auto\">On a gross revenue basis,<\/span><span dir=\"auto\">\u00a0the company\u2019s total revenue in 2024 was \u20ac179.43 million, including \u20ac145.67 million in consumption tax and other taxes.<\/span><\/span><\/section>\n<section><span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\"><span dir=\"auto\">PJ Carroll &amp; Company Ltd's pre-tax profit fell 8% last year to \u20ac5.69 million.<\/span><\/span><\/section>\n<p><span dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">Velo's dramatic sales surge comes as the cabinet approves legislation drafted by Health Secretary Jennifer Carole McNeil\u00a0<\/span><span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\"><span class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">to ban the sale of nicotine products, including nicotine pouches, to minors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">The new legislation also plans to ban advertising such products in all retail channels and prohibit their open display in general retail stores.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<section><span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\"><span dir=\"auto\">According to the Healthy Ireland survey released this year, 1% of the Irish population uses nicotine bags, rising to 3% in the 15-24 age group.
