{"id":51363,"date":"2025-11-10T17:06:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T09:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abesmoke.com\/?p=51363"},"modified":"2025-11-10T17:06:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T09:06:08","slug":"south-koreas-new-law-mandates-the-disclosure-of-tobacco-product-ingredients-covering-cigarettes-heated-tobacco-and-e-cigarettes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abesmoke.com\/en\/a\/51363","title":{"rendered":"South Korea's new law mandates the disclosure of tobacco product ingredients, covering cigarettes, heated tobacco, and e-cigarettes."},"content":{"rendered":"<section><span dir=\"auto\" data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\"><span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\"><span class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">South Korea\u2019s Ministry of Health and Welfare and Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that,<\/span><\/span><span class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">\u00a0in order to protect the public\u2019s right to know and right to health, the \u201cTobacco Harmful Components Management\u00a0<\/span><span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\"><span class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">Act\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\"><span class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">\u201d will\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\"><span class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">be officially implemented<\/span><\/span><span class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">\u00a0on November 1,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"\" dir=\"auto\">making the detection and disclosure of information on harmful components in tobacco mandatory.<\/span><\/span><\/section>\n<section><\/section>\n<section><span dir=\"auto\">Under the new law,\u00a0companies that produce, import, or sell tobacco products must commission an independent testing agency to test each product for harmful substances every two years.\u00a0Currently sold tobacco products must be tested within three months of the law's effective date (i.e., by the end of January next year)\u00a0.\u00a0<span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\">For products introduced after the law takes effect, testing applications must be submitted within six months of the following year.\u00a0Testing covers all tobacco products, including cigarettes, heated tobacco products, and e-cigarettes.<\/span><\/span><span dir=\"auto\">\u00a0Testing agencies must meet international standards and satisfy requirements regarding personnel, facilities, and equipment. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety plans to designate these agencies earlier this month. A notice will also be issued this month detailing the specific substances to be tested and the testing methods.Tobacco companies must submit the test results to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety within 15 days. Companies that refuse to submit or fail to submit test results will be subject to rectification penalties. Failure to comply may result in the recall and destruction of affected tobacco products.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section><span dir=\"auto\"><span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\">After receiving the test results, the Food and Drug Safety Department will publicly disclose the types and amounts of harmful substances in each product, as well as their toxic and carcinogenic effects on humans.\u00a0<\/span><span data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\">The public can freely access this information through the Food and Drug Safety Department's official website.
