Amendments to the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on the Control of Tobacco, Tobacco Products and Related Products (hereinafter referred to as the Law) that will enter into force at the beginning of 2025 change the procedure for retail trade in tobacco, tobacco products and related products. Article\u00a0<\/span>15 , Section\u00a0<\/span>1<\/span><\/sup>\u00a0of the Law provides that\u00a0<\/span>it is prohibited to publicly display (demonstrate) tobacco products, products related to tobacco products and devices intended for the consumption of these products in retail outlets. However, this prohibition does not apply to products sold in tobacco product stores, tobacco product departments (provided that these products and (or) devices are not displayed (demonstrated) in the external windows of these stores or departments and (or) through other external devices of this store or department).<\/span><\/p>\n

Article 17(1) of the Law establishes a provision prohibiting the advertising of tobacco products in the Republic of Lithuania. However, retail outlets may still provide certain information about tobacco products, which is not considered advertising. These are\u00a0<\/span>the names of the manufacturer, the tobacco products sold, products related to tobacco products, and devices intended for the use of these products, the words \"We sell\" or \"We sell\", the prices of tobacco products, products related to tobacco products, and devices intended for the use of these products, and the prices\u00a0<\/span>of a unit packet or an outer packaging containing several unit packets\u00a0<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Article 17(6) of the Law stipulates that the above information may be provided only in places where tobacco products, tobacco-related products and devices intended for the consumption of these products are sold. It may not be provided in leaflets, flyers and other advertising materials intended for consumers to take away, and it is prohibited to provide imitations and images of tobacco products, tobacco-related products or their unit packets, or devices intended for the consumption of these products in retail outlets. No other visual or graphic information about tobacco products, tobacco-related products and devices intended for the consumption of these products not specified in Article 17(3) and (5) may be provided in retail outlets.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Department also draws attention to the fact that the Order of the Minister of Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania of 23 September 2024 No. 4-495\u00a0<\/span>\"On the Approval of the Description of the Procedure for Providing Information on Tobacco Products and Products Related to Tobacco Products Allowed to be Presented at Retail Outlets\"<\/span><\/a>\u00a0, which comes into force on 1 January 2025, comprehensively regulates the procedure for providing information on tobacco products, products related to tobacco products, and devices intended for the consumption of these products at retail outlets. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
