BAT is experimenting with two new technologies aimed at preventing minors from purchasing tobacco products. Since March 2023, the company\u2019s Research and Development Committee has been led by Dr. James Murphy, who has overseen an investment of over \u20ac10 billion in scientific research on new tobacco products over the past decade. In 2024, the company launched the \"Omni\" scientific resource project, with plans to attract 50 million new users of innovative tobacco products by 2030, and hopes that by 2035, revenue from these new products will account for half of its total income.<\/em><\/p>\n

In response to minors' interest in e-cigarettes and alternatives, BAT is developing preventive measures, including a purchase verification system via a smartphone application and real-time facial recognition technology powered by artificial intelligence, ensuring that only adults can purchase these products. Dr. Murphy noted that these technologies are being tested under market conditions, with the aim of enhancing the safety and compliance of tobacco product purchases.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/section>\n
