Director General of Customs and Excise Askolani said that this was done as part of the government's strategy in managing cigarette excise policies without increasing the Tobacco Product Excise (CHT) rates.<\/p>\n
In the APBN KiTa press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday (11\/12\/2024), Askolani said that the regulation that will be the legal umbrella for the increase in cigarette prices is the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) which is scheduled to be issued this week.<\/p>\n
\"We have prepared the PMK together with the BKF (Fiscal Policy Agency). It has been harmonized at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and God willing, it can be implemented this week. And two PMKs, one PMK regarding the HJE of conventional cigarettes and another PMK regarding the HJE of electronic cigarettes which of course we will use as the basis for policy in 2025,\" said Askolani, Wednesday, quoted from the Ministry of Finance's YouTube channel broadcast.<\/p>\n
He said there were a number of strategic considerations underlying the decision to raise cigarette prices. Including considerations of health control which is a major step by the government in regulating tobacco products.<\/p>\n
Regarding the CHT and HJE policies, of course the 2025 policy considers many areas, many factors. We are also mitigating\u00a0the downtrading<\/em>\u00a0that occurred during 2024 and we will minimize it hopefully in 2025 and we also consider the labor industry,\" he said.<\/p>\n Customs\u00a0and Excise\u00a0have also coordinated with\u00a0Perum Peruri\u00a0\u00a0to print new cigarette\u00a0excise stamps\u00a0in 2025.<\/p>\n \"We have also prepared the contract with Peruri, and Peruri has also prepared the infrastructure and raw materials for printing excise stamps in 2025 so that we hope that in the near future, excise stamps can be started and prepared by Peruri to be fulfilled this December,\" he explained.<\/p>\n Askolani said the demand for excise stamps this year will increase significantly in December and will peak in January next year.
