PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) is the core electronic component of e-cigarettes and directly determines their performance, including vapor volume, flavor, safety, and ease of use.

Simply put, it involves soldering electronic components (such as chips, resistors, and capacitors) onto a printed circuit board (PCB) using surface mount technology (SMT) or plug-in technology, followed by debugging and testing to create a circuit board assembly with specific functions.

Electronic cigarette PCBA mainly consists of the following parts:

1. Control Chip

This is the core component of the e-cigarette PCBA, responsible for controlling various e-cigarette functions, such as adjusting power output, switching operating modes (such as normal mode and temperature control mode), and managing battery charge monitoring.

The performance and functions of different control chips vary. Some high-end chips may also include features such as intelligent control and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing users to more precisely configure and monitor their e-cigarettes via devices such as mobile phones.

2. Power Management Module

Battery Charge and Discharge Protection Circuit: Ensures the safety of e-cigarette batteries during the charging and discharging process. During charging, it prevents overcharging, which can damage the battery and even cause safety issues. During discharging, it prevents overdischarge and promptly shuts off the circuit when the battery level is low, protecting the battery life.

Voltage Stabilization Circuit: Converts the battery output voltage into a stable voltage suitable for e-cigarette operation. Because battery voltage fluctuates during different stages of use, and e-cigarette components such as the atomizer require a stable voltage for proper operation, the voltage stabilization circuit is crucial. It ensures stable output power and atomization quality during e-cigarette use.

3. Sensor

This is typically an airflow sensor or pressure sensor, also known as a microphone in the industry. It's further categorized as an electret microphone or a silicon microphone. It detects the user's inhalation.

When the user inhales, the sensor senses the change in airflow or pressure and transmits a signal to the control chip. This signal then activates the e-cigarette's atomization function, atomizing the e-liquid to produce smoke. This design makes the experience of using an e-cigarette more similar to that of smoking a traditional cigarette: smoke when inhaled, smokeless when not inhaled.

4. Display (Optional, Currently Popular)

If the e-cigarette is equipped with a display, the PCBA will contain the corresponding connection circuits and driver chip. The display can be used to display the e-cigarette's operating status, such as the current power mode, battery level, number of puffs, and temperature, allowing users to easily understand their e-cigarette usage and make appropriate adjustments.

Currently, the most commonly used display screens include LED digital tubes and TFT screens.

5. Charging Port

This is the interface that connects the e-cigarette to an external charger. Common options include Micro USB and Type-C. The charging port connects to the battery through a circuit. When the e-cigarette needs to be charged, the current from the external charger is input into the e-cigarette through the charging port, charging the battery.

6. Buttons (Optional)

Some e-cigarettes have buttons, such as power on/off, power adjustment, and mode switching. These buttons are connected to corresponding circuits on the PCBA. When the user presses a button, it triggers a signal in the circuit, and the control chip performs the corresponding operation based on this signal.

7. Temperature Sensor (Optional)

Some e-cigarettes with temperature control are equipped with a temperature sensor. The temperature sensor monitors the temperature of the atomizer in real time. If the temperature is too high, the control chip will reduce the power output or stop heating to prevent the atomizer from overheating and affecting the taste of the e-liquid.

8. Other Auxiliary Components

These components include resistors, capacitors, inductors, and other electronic components. They perform filtering, voltage stabilization, and signal coupling to ensure the proper operation of the PCBA circuits.
