Oil-core separation is one of the important technologies of e-cigarettes. I. The Necessity of Wick Separation Technology

The design of a wick separation system is primarily based on the following reasons:

1. Protecting E-liquid Quality

When the e-cigarette is not in use, separating the e-liquid from the atomizer coil prevents prolonged contact between the e-liquid and the coil, thereby preventing the e-liquid from corroding or oxidizing, and thus ensuring that the e-liquid quality is not compromised.

2. Preventing Leakage

This prevents e-liquid from slowly leaking through the wick into the flue during storage and transportation, especially for high-volume cartridges. This effectively prevents leakage, improving product quality and user experience.

3. Extending the Life of the Atomizer

Extended e-liquid exposure to the heating element can corrode or oxidize, shortening its lifespan. Wick separation reduces this damage and extends the lifespan of the atomizer.

4. Improving Taste

Corrosion or oxidation can interfere with the e-liquid's flavor. Wick separation prevents this, providing smokers with a better taste experience.

5. Avoiding Dry Burn

Certain wick separation structures can prevent the atomizer wick from dry burning due to improper handling before vaping, which can burn the atomizer wick's oil guide cotton and affect the flavor and product lifespan.

II. Principle of Wick Separation Technology

Wick separation, as the name suggests, separates the e-liquid and the atomizer coil. Before use, the atomizer coil is pulled or pushed into the oil reservoir to ensure full contact.

1. Silicone Rod Lifting

This method is common in disposable products, though some closed-type cartridge-replaceable products also use it. The principle is to lift the atomizer coil with a silicone rod.

It should be noted that many current e-cigarette products also use a silicone rod for sealing, but this does not strictly fall under the category of wick separation technology. The silicone rod is used to strengthen the seal and prevent leakage caused by pressure fluctuations during transportation.

The silicone rod that separates the oil core will have a buckle at one end to lift the atomizer core.

2. Push-type

This design is more common in open-type devices, especially high-power models. Its principle is that when not in use, the atomizer coil's oil inlet is sealed within the silicone pad at the base, preventing e-liquid from entering. When in use, the atomizer coil is pushed, allowing the oil inlet to enter the oil reservoir, allowing e-liquid to enter the atomizer coil.

3. Shielded Type

This design is relatively uncommon. Its principle is that the atomizer coil is enclosed by a wick shield, which covers the oil inlet. The shield is rotated or slid to allow the e-liquid to penetrate the atomizer coil.

Summary

Wick separation technology effectively prevents e-cigarettes from experiencing flavor changes and leaks during transportation and storage. However, it also has drawbacks, such as requiring more components and a more complex design, which can increase production costs and manufacturing difficulty.
